Our Trustees
The Trustees are aware of the great impact our support has on the unit. We are a supportive, friendly team with the sole purpose of supporting this specialist unit for the wellbeing of future children and families.
Our Trustees work together to develop a clear strategy for the future of Friends of PICU and ensure that the work we do and our goals are in line with those of the PICU and Southampton Children’s Hospital. They each play a key role and bring together their personal and professional experiences.

Dr. Iain Macintosh
Dr Macintosh has worked for University Hospital Southampton since July 1995. As a Consultant on the PICU, Iain is able to provide a thorough insight and understanding of the PICU, the issues it faces, how it is supported within the Hospital Trust and importantly it’s future. We would like to thank Iain for his time and dedication as Chairman of Friends of PICU. You will see Iain at many of our events, where he is only too happy to explain the great support provided by the charity to the PICU.

Darren May
Darren, along with his wife Nikki and their family have been supporting and fundraising for Friends of PICU since 2009 when their youngest daughter Kitty was admitted by ambulance to the PICU, and they learnt about the valuable support given by the charity.

Fran Mahon
Fran is a Sister on PICU and so knows first-hand about the skills, passion and teamwork of the staff on the PICU, whilst at the same time as a Mum knows only too well the stresses this can put families under. Seeing the support provided to the children and their families by Friends of PICU gives Fran an increased sense of pride in the work the team do on the PICU.

Verity Saxon
Verity is a very proud mummy of 4, and after her youngest daughter, Penelope spent a number of months in Southampton PICU when she was a newborn having life saving treatment, Verity and her husband, Andrew and their children have been supporting the charity ever since.
Verity feels privileged to be able to support the charity in her role as a Trustee. She brings a unique skill set both as an Employment Lawyer, and as a mum with her own first hand experience of the incredible expertise and dedication of the staff at Southampton PICU, and how invaluable the Friends of PICU Charity is to the unit and the families affected.
