Fundraising Ideas

Friends of PICU raises money to buy essential equipment that is not provided by the statutory authorities. Friends of PICU organise various events throughout the year: Golf Day, Charity ball, Christmas Bazaar, Children's Christmas party, as well as stalls held at Winchester and Southampton General during the year. Please view the event calendar to see what's coming up.

In addition, many of the families who have spent time on PICU organise events to fundraise for us. This includes sponsored walks, bike rides, 24-hour bowlathon, casino night, race night, sponsored skip to name but a few. These events are very important for Friends of PICU, with your money going to a variety of important items.

If you have been inspired to fundraise for Friends of PICU, whatever your event, please contact our Secretary. We can provide information on Health and Safety considerations, any licenses that may be required (example for raffle tickets), how to publicise your event and how to bank the money. Often when fundraising, companies require a letter from the Charity giving permission to fundraise on our behalf; we are very happy to provide this! Please contact our Secretary.

Are you a business owner?

Why not do some fundraising for Friends of PICU through your business?
Do you own a shop-could you sell handmade or printed charity cards for us?
Could you run comeptitions throughout the office, or run sponsored events?

Do you own a Pub/Restuarant/Hairdressers etc? Could you put on charity quizz nights, sponsored events, raffle compeitions, family fun days, themed evening events, or even a sponsored diet-for-charity where your customers could donate to support members of staff loosing weight for charity?!

Or maybe you could have a donations box for Friends of PICU at your till?

The possibilities are endless! Ask us for more ideas if you want inspiration!

April: Organise Easter Events, such as an easter egg hunt, a treasure trail, a BBQ, Garden Party, Sponsored Group Walk

May: The Bank Holiday is a great time to get your creative thoughts buzzing. Events at these times can be loads of fun because people are off work! Events such as garden parties, cake and lemonade sales, BBQ's, summer fetes are lovely to do. People love to be outside at this time of the year!

June: Host a Father's Day BBQ with activities such as Tug-Of-War Competitions

July: Host a British Grand Prix Party for all of your friends and families. Cook nibbles or a BBQ whilst your guests watch the race on television! Ask them all to donate to Friends of PICU for all of your efforts!  July is a great time to hold summer Fetes, Garden Parties, Afternoon Tea sales and so on.

August: The Bank Holiday is a great time to get your creative thoughts buzzing. Events at these times can be loads of fun because people are off work! Events such as garden parties, cake and lemonade sales, BBQ's, summer fetes are lovely to do. People love to be outside at this time of the year!

September: Why not organise an event with all of your friends who would love to have a night off from their lovely children after the summer holidays?! Host a "Come Dine With Me" dinner, or a "Movie Night." Maybe organise a pampering night with beauty products and treatments with donations to Friends of PICU!

October: Host a Spooky Halloween Party! (31st)

November: Host a Bonfire Night event (5th) Christmas is also on it's way and this can be a great month to organise Christmas Fairs, to sell charity christmas cards, and if you're a creative person-hold workshops for a group of people to learn how to make christmas decorations or presents! This can be done easily with ticket sales with a percentage going to the charity.

December: Christmas is a great time to bring those closest to you together and to give something back to those that need it the most. New toy donations at Christmas is a great way to put a smile on the faces of children being treated on the unit, and we appreciate any donations for new equipment on the unit. Could your friends and family, school, or workplace put a small ammount of money into a pot that could go towards such a donation?   Why not consider donating to Friends of PICU instead of buying Christmas Cards, or buy your Christmas Cards from us.

Ideas for fundraising at Work:

Sponsored pyjama/fancy dress/non uniform day- this can be a fun way of getting the whole office involved and can create some great talking points and photos!

Name the bear competition- buy a bear and write a list of names-£1 a go to enter, whoever wins gets the bear!

Cake Sales- who doesn't love a good cake sale! Get a few friends to make a batch of cakes and sell in the office till they're all gone!

Sponsored Hair Cuts/Waxing!- This can be a great way to raise some money (and laughs) at work! Just get permission to set up in a lunch break and find someone brave enough to have their legs waxed to raise funds! You could even charge friends per waxing strip if they wanted to join in the fun of pulling the strips off themselves!

Make us your Chairty- if you work in a company that support a charity throughout the year, organising fun events and raising money, then why not suggest Friends of PICU as one of those charities? We'd be forever greatful for any support from any of you!
