240 Miles in 24 Hours: Cycle Challenge Across the South In Memory Of Grace Mae Chiverton

On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th July 2012, a group of friends from Alton in Hampshire cycled 240 miles in just 24 hours - in memory of a special little girl called Grace-Mae Chiverton.
Simon Hewitt, James Farquhar, Paul Mundy and Mark Barber set themselves the challenge in order to raise money for Friends of PICU.
Grace, the daughter of Hayley and Sam, Simon Hewitt’s close friends, was admitted to the PICU in July 2011 with a rare type of aneurysm on her brain. After being transferred by ambulance from Basingstoke hospital, she underwent specialist treatment on the unit and received unstinting care and attention by doctors and nurses. Sadly, after one week, Grace passed away in her parents’ arms. She died on 12th July 2011, aged just three years old.
The Cycle Challenge was a hard weekend for the team as they cycled through the day and night in very bad conditions with heavy rain and flooding. There were injuries, not only for the cyclists, but also to the bikes and support vehicles! However, the team completed the challenge and arrived at Southampton General Hospital at 10am Sunday 8th July! They have raised around £20,000 which is an incredible achievement for everyone involved.

Weekend Fun in aid of Friends of PICU

Following a stay in PICU in 2010, two youngsters decided that they would like to raise some money for the hospital where Katie Ruffles was treated. Katie's friend Hannah Barnard came up with the idea of a fundraising "Afternoon tea"but the event soon grew into much more - including a raffle, cake auction, beer tasting, several children’s games and activities as well as stalls selling gifts.
Over 80 guests enjoyed the afternoon, with funds raised from Entry fees, afternoon teas and auctions.
A fantastic £685 was raised on the day, which has increased to £1370 due to the generous fundmatching provided by Barclays Bank PLC. A great achievement - well done girls!
